The Game

The 2019-2020 VEX Robotics Competition Game is called Tower-Takeover.

Tower-Takeover is play on a 12’ x 12’ square field between 2 alliances of 2 Red Teams and 2 Blue Teams. Each match consists of a 15 second Autonomous Period and another 1:45 minute Driver Controlled Period.

The objective of the game is to attain a higher score than your opposition by placing cubes in goals, located at each corner of the field. All cubes initially have a point value of 1. Placing a cube in a tower will raise the point value of all cubes with the same color by +1.

Each robot must start the game within the required volume of 18’ x 18’ x 18’, but robots can expand beyond this limit once that game had started.

Robots must start the match as follows:

  1. Contacting the field perimeter wall on the side that coincides with their Alliance’s Goal Zone and Alliance Station.

  2. Contacting a foam field tile.

  3. Not contacting a Tower.

  4. Not contacting any Cubes other than the Preload.

  5. Contacting a Preload.

    1. The Preload must be contacting exactly 1 Robot.

    2. The Preload must be fully within the field perimeter.

  6. Not contacting a Goal Zone or another barrier

  7. Not contacting another robot

Within the Autonomous Period, robots cannot cross over to the other side any time within this period. Each robot is granted a preload cube and can do with it as they wish. The alliance that wins this period will be granted 6 points and 2 purple cubes to be placed at a location and time of their own choice.

Within the Driver Controlled Period, robots can now cross into the other alliance’s side. Defensive play style is permitted, but trappings can be for no longer than 5 seconds, and any entanglement interpreted as intentional is ground for disqualification.
